The Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), introduced by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), is a four-year undergraduate programme designed to prepare prospective teachers by integrating academic coursework with practical teaching experiences. This programme represents an innovative reform under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Objectives of the ITEP:
To develop well-trained teachers capable of designing developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
To prepare teachers for the Foundational, Preparatory, Middle, and Secondary stages of schooling.
To ensure that teachers are grounded in Indian values, languages, and cultural traditions.
To equip teachers with the ability to use modern teaching technologies effectively in the classroom.
Admission:
Admission to the ITEP is conducted through the National Common Entrance Test (NCET).
Implementation at Pub Kamrup College, Baihata Chariali:
Pub Kamrup College, Baihata Chariali, is set to introduce the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) from the academic year 2026–27. After completing the Higher Secondary (H.S.) course, students aspiring to pursue a career in teaching may seek admission to this four-year ITEP by qualifying in the national-level entrance examination. Upon successful completion of the programme, students will get a B.A. B.Ed. or B.Sc. B.Ed. degree, which will qualify them for the teaching profession as well as for further higher studies.
